How to Prepare Your Home for Professional Window Cleaning
If you’ve never had your windows professionally cleaned before, you may be wondering what you need to do before the window cleaner arrives.
The good news? Not much.
At Window Washing Pros, we handle the cleaning itself, including the glass, frames, sills, tracks, and screens when included in your service. But there are a few simple things you can do before we arrive that can make the process even smoother.
Whether you live in Mooresville, Cornelius, Davidson, Huntersville, or somewhere else around Lake Norman, here are a few simple ways to prepare your home for professional window cleaning.

1. Move Small Items Away From the Windows
Before we arrive, take a quick look around the windows inside your home.
If there are small decorations, plants, pictures, or other items sitting directly in front of the windows, moving them out of the way gives your technician easier access to the glass.
You don't need to completely rearrange your house. Just clearing the immediate area around the windows is usually enough.
For larger pieces of furniture that are difficult to move, don't worry. Just let your technician know when they arrive so we can work around them safely.
2. Open Your Blinds or Curtains
If possible, open your blinds and curtains before your appointment.
This gives us immediate access to the windows and helps us get started faster. It can also make it easier to identify windows that may be tucked behind furniture or coverings.
If you have delicate curtains or complicated blinds, you don't need to remove them. We'll work carefully around them.
3. Let Us Know About Anything Special With Your Windows
Lake Norman homes come in all shapes and sizes, and we've seen just about everything when it comes to windows.
If you have windows that are difficult to access, particularly delicate glass, window film, unusually large windows, skylights, or other special circumstances, let us know ahead of time.
The more we know about your home, the better we can prepare for the job.
4. Make Sure We Can Access the Exterior
For exterior window cleaning, we'll need access around the outside of the home.
If you have a locked gate, please make sure it's unlocked when we arrive or let us know how we can access it.
It's also helpful to move anything immediately around the windows that could prevent access, such as hoses, toys, outdoor furniture, or other items.
You don't need to completely clear your yard. We just need enough room to safely do the job.
5. Secure Your Pets
We love dogs, cats, and all the other furry members of the family.
But professional window cleaning can involve doors opening and closing, equipment moving through the house, ladders, hoses, and technicians coming in and out.
For everyone's safety, we recommend keeping pets in a secure area while we're working.
This is especially important if you have an especially curious dog who thinks every visitor is their new best friend.
6. Don't Worry About Cleaning the Windows First
This one sounds obvious, but we've had homeowners ask what they should do before we arrive.
You don't need to clean your windows before the window cleaner comes.
That's our job.
In fact, trying to clean the glass beforehand can sometimes make things more difficult if products or cleaners leave residue behind.
Just leave the windows to us.
7. Don't Forget About Screens
Screens collect an impressive amount of pollen, dust, dirt, and debris, especially here around Lake Norman.
If screen cleaning is included in your service, we'll take care of them as part of the process.
If you have removable screens, we'll typically remove them, clean them, and put them back in place.
If you have particularly dirty or damaged screens, let us know. We also offer screen repair and replacement services when needed.
8. Tell Us About Any Previous Window Issues
If you've noticed something unusual with your windows, mention it to your technician.
Maybe there's a stubborn spot that won't come off, mineral buildup from hard water, a window that's difficult to open, or a screen that doesn't fit properly.
Knowing about these things ahead of time helps us identify what can be addressed through normal cleaning and what may require an additional service.
For example, hard-water stains can sometimes require specialized restoration rather than standard window cleaning.
9. What You Don't Need to Do
One of the biggest benefits of hiring a professional is that you shouldn't have to spend your day preparing for us.
You don't need to:
Clean the windows yourself
Scrub the tracks
Wash the screens
Set up ladders
Buy cleaning supplies
Figure out which products to use
Spend hours getting every window ready
